About the role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Locum Practice Manager to join CGHB Partnership, a large, multi-site GP practice in Basingstoke, providing care to approximately 52,000 patients across four sites.

This is an opportunity for a confident, hands-on Practice Manager who can provide strong operational leadership, support our teams and help drive forward ongoing service improvements.

Working closely with the Regional Manager, clinical leads and wider leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the practice, maintaining operational performance and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient services.

We are looking for someone who can quickly establish themselves within the team, take ownership of operational priorities and bring a practical, solutions-focused approach to managing a busy general practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide effective day-to-day operational leadership across the practice.

  • Support and develop the existing management and administrative teams, ensuring clear responsibilities and accountability.

  • Oversee workforce planning, staffing levels, rotas and recruitment requirements.

  • Monitor and improve operational performance, including patient access, appointment capacity, administrative workflows and service delivery.

  • Lead the implementation of agreed improvement plans, ensuring actions are progressed and measurable outcomes achieved.

  • Work collaboratively with clinical leads to ensure effective utilisation of resources and clinical capacity.

  • Maintain oversight of CQC compliance, governance, health and safety and other regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee complaints management, significant events and associated learning and improvement actions.

  • Ensure effective communication and engagement with staff, patients and key stakeholders.

  • Identify operational risks, implement practical solutions and escalate concerns appropriately.

  • Provide regular performance updates and progress reports to the Regional Manager.

About you

We are seeking an experienced Practice Manager who is comfortable working in a large, fast-paced primary care environment and can confidently lead teams through periods of change.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Practice Manager within NHS general practice.

  • Strong understanding of primary care operations, NHS contractual requirements and CQC standards.

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and overseeing day-to-day practice operations.

  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, make decisions and work independently.

  • Experience monitoring performance, managing operational challenges and implementing service improvements.

  • Good working knowledge of EMIS Web and general practice systems.

  • A proactive, approachable and solutions-focused management style.

Desirable:

  • Previous locum or interim Practice Manager experience.

  • Experience managing a large or multi-site GP practice.

  • Experience supporting operational improvement or recovery programmes.

  • Familiarity with digital triage, patient access systems and workflow management.

What we offer

You will be joining an established clinical and operational leadership team, with support from the Regional Manager and wider Operose Health teams.

This is an opportunity to make a positive and immediate impact within a large general practice, supporting our teams and contributing to ongoing improvements in patient care and operational performance.
