System Administrator

Build and run EHOSS’s IT infrastructure by hand — servers and VMware, the network down to the cable, cameras and access control.

About the Role

EHOSS is looking for a system administrator to build, run and develop the company’s IT infrastructure in Bratislava. We are looking for a practical technical specialist who is ready to work not only with server software but directly with the physical infrastructure too: server hardware, networks, cabling, video surveillance and access control.

Responsibilities

• Administration of the company’s server infrastructure
• Installing, configuring and supporting servers and server hardware
• Administration of the VMware ESXi environment
• Creating, configuring and supporting virtual machines
• Administration of servers running Ubuntu, CentOS and other Linux systems
• Setting up and administering the company’s local network
• Configuring routers, switches, Wi-Fi and other network equipment
• Setting up VLAN, VPN, DHCP, DNS and the other core network services
• Installing, laying and connecting network cabling
• Organising server racks, patch panels and the structured cabling system
• Setting up and supporting IP video surveillance
• Installing and administering access control systems
• Connecting cameras, controllers, readers, and network and peripheral equipment
• Monitoring the health of servers, networks and the IT infrastructure
• Organising data backup and recovery
• Keeping updates, security and access to the information systems under control
• Technical support for the company’s staff
• Keeping records of computer, server and network equipment
• Working with suppliers of IT, telecoms and security equipment
• A part in developing the IT infrastructure of EHOSS’s production and office sites

Requirements

• Hands-on experience as a system administrator
• A good understanding of how local computer networks are built
• Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi
• Linux at system administrator level, Ubuntu / CentOS in particular
• Understanding of TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, DHCP and DNS
• Experience with routers, switches and Wi-Fi equipment
• Installing and diagnosing Ethernet networks
• Understanding of how IP video surveillance works
• Experience with access control systems
• Understanding of backup and of information security
• Diagnosing and solving technical problems on your own
• Responsibility, systems thinking and attention to detail
• Readiness to work with the software and the physical side of IT infrastructure alike
• English at B1, Ukrainian at C1
• An advantage: building a company’s IT infrastructure from scratch; a background in manufacturing or logistics companies; Windows Server and Active Directory; NAS, SAN and backup systems; firewalls and network security; RFID, WMS, ERP or production information systems; integrating IT infrastructure with production equipment; SQL and databases; the basics of APIs and integrations between information systems; UPS units, server racks, patch panels and structured cabling
