Joule’s Brewery is looking for an ambitious Deputy Manager to help bring Gas Street Vaults to life, our newest Taphouse in the heart of Birmingham’s iconic Gas Street Basin.

With a major development underway, this is an exciting opportunity to join before opening, work alongside the General Manager and play a key role in building a successful pub from day one.

The Opportunity

This is more than just another Deputy Manager role. It’s an opportunity to be part of something new.

Gas Street Vaults is being transformed into a flagship Joule’s Brewery Taphouse, combining great beer, quality pub food, live music and warm hospitality in one of Birmingham’s most iconic waterside locations.

Joining ahead of the launch, you’ll work closely with the General Manager to recruit and develop the team, establish high standards and help create a pub that locals, visitors and businesses will want to return to.

You’ll be hands-on, involved in the day-to-day operation and encouraged to bring your own ideas to help make Gas Street Vaults a success.

The Vision

A major new canalside pub destination coming to Birmingham in January 2027.

Gas Street Vaults is being transformed from a former bistro restaurant into a characterful Joule’s Brewery Taphouse inspired by Birmingham’s industrial heritage, canal history and pub culture.

Made up of unique spaces, each with its own atmosphere and experience, Gas Street Vaults will become a destination for locals, visitors and businesses alike.

What You’ll Get Up To

• Supporting the General Manager in the launch and day-to-day running of Gas Street Vaults

• Helping recruit, train, motivate and develop a brand new team

• Leading shifts and delivering high standards across food, drink and service

• Creating a welcoming atmosphere and memorable customer experiences

• Driving sales through events, promotions and local engagement

• Supporting stock management, cash controls and overall business performance

• Working closely with the kitchen team to deliver a consistently strong food offer

• Helping plan and deliver an exciting calendar of events and trade builders

• Ensuring compliance, safety and smooth daily operations

Who We’re Looking For

• Experience in an Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager or similar management role within a busy pub

• Confidence leading shifts and motivating a team

• A hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

• A genuine passion for great food, drink and customer service

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

• Knowledge of cask ale and cellarmanship is highly desirable

• A positive attitude, plenty of initiative and willingness to get stuck in

• £30,000 – £35,000 depending on experience
