About the role
Project Manager – Heavy Civil
An experienced Project Manager is required to lead the successful delivery of major heavy civil engineering projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware and delivery-focused professional to manage complex construction works from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
You will take overall responsibility for project performance, coordinating internal teams, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and client representatives. The role requires strong leadership, sound technical knowledge and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of a project.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the planning, mobilisation and delivery of heavy civil engineering projects.
- Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, forecasts and resource plans.
- Monitor progress, productivity, costs, quality and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Manage subcontractor performance, procurement activities, variations and commercial risks.
- Coordinate design development, technical submissions, approvals and construction interfaces.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, consultants, project teams and supply chain partners.
- Identify issues and opportunities early, implementing effective mitigation and recovery plans.
- Prepare regular project reports, forecasts and performance updates for senior management.
- Support the successful handover, completion and close-out of projects.
About you
You will have proven experience managing heavy civil engineering or infrastructure projects, ideally with responsibility for complex programmes, significant budgets and multidisciplinary teams. A relevant qualification in civil engineering, construction management or a related discipline is desirable, along with recognised project management or site management credentials.
You should be commercially astute, highly organised and confident making decisions in a demanding project environment. Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills are essential, as is a demonstrable commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement. The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a collaborative and professional approach will be key to your success.
