About the role
General Superintendent
An experienced General Superintendent is required to provide senior leadership across complex construction projects, ensuring that work is delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule and to the required quality standards. This is a key operational role, coordinating site teams, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers from mobilisation through to completion.
You will oversee daily construction activities, establish clear priorities and maintain a strong focus on productivity, programme performance and compliance. Working closely with project management and commercial teams, you will help develop realistic delivery plans, monitor progress and address risks before they affect cost or completion dates.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and support site superintendents, project managers, engineers, forepersons and subcontractors.
- Coordinate construction activities across multiple work packages and disciplines.
- Review programmes, sequencing, logistics and resource requirements to maintain progress.
- Promote a proactive health, safety and environmental culture across all operations.
- Monitor workmanship, inspections, testing and compliance with drawings, specifications and regulations.
- Identify construction risks, resolve site issues and implement practical corrective actions.
- Attend progress meetings and provide accurate updates on programme, quality, labour and productivity.
- Build effective working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and project stakeholders.
- Ensure site records, permits, method statements and reporting requirements are properly maintained.
About you
You will have substantial experience in a senior site leadership position, ideally gained on large-scale, technically complex or multi-phase construction projects. A strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, health and safety legislation, quality assurance and subcontractor management is essential.
You should be a confident communicator and decisive problem-solver who can motivate diverse teams while maintaining high standards. The ability to interpret technical information, manage competing priorities and make sound decisions under pressure will be central to your success. Relevant industry qualifications, site safety certification and a recognised construction management qualification are desirable.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of major delivery objectives and make a visible contribution to project success. A flexible approach to travel, changing site conditions and occasional extended working hours may be required.
