Application Support / Systems Engineer, UKIC DV

Listings

Southern Lights is recruiting an experienced Application Support / Systems Engineer to work within a highly secure technology environment in Cheltenham.

This is a hands-on technical position supporting business-critical applications and the infrastructure they run on. It would suit someone with a strong Linux or systems background who is comfortable troubleshooting applications, infrastructure and services rather than working purely within traditional desktop support.

The position can be offered on either a permanent or outside IR35 contract basis.

What you will be doing

You will help maintain the availability and performance of applications and supporting systems, investigating incidents and working with engineering teams to identify and resolve technical problems.

The role will involve a mixture of application support, systems administration, monitoring, troubleshooting and technical investigation within a complex environment.

Depending on your background, your experience could include areas such as:

• Linux systems administration
• Application and production support
• Troubleshooting complex technical issues
• SQL and databases
• Networking and security
• Scripting and automation
• Monitoring and alerting tools
• Virtualised environments
• Cloud technologies
• Containers
• CI/CD and deployment tooling
• Incident and problem management

We are interested in candidates from Application Support, Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Support, Production Support or Linux Engineering backgrounds who are comfortable working across both applications and their underlying infrastructure.

Experience of working within government, defence, intelligence or another highly secure technical environment would be particularly relevant.

Essential requirements

You must currently hold live UKIC DV clearance. This is required for access to the working environment, so unfortunately SC, other forms of DV or candidates requiring new clearance cannot be considered.

You must also be able to work onsite in Cheltenham four days per week.

Permanent salaries are available up to £100,000, with an outside IR35 contract option also available.

If you currently hold UKIC DV and would like to hear more, please apply or contact Southern Lights for a confidential discussion.
