About the role

We are seeking a technically strong Grid Consultant, based in Karachi or Lahore, Pakistan, to support Blake Clough Consulting’s grid connection and regulatory advisory work, primarily in the GB electricity market, with opportunities to contribute to international projects as the business grows.

You will work closely with UK colleagues to deliver assignments for renewable energy, battery storage and demand projects. You will help clients understand their connection options, assess technical and commercial risks, and navigate the UK grid connection process.

The role will involve working with information and requirements from the National Energy System Operator (NESO), Transmission Owners and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), alongside engagement with developers, independent power producers and investors.

Relevant experience in electricity networks, grid connections or energy regulation is important. Familiarity with the GB electricity market would be beneficial, together with an interest in developing your knowledge of its technical, commercial and regulatory frameworks.

Projects will cover a range of generation, storage and demand technologies, including solar PV, onshore and offshore wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), data centres and other large demand connections at distribution and transmission voltages.

You will be expected to deliver familiar assignments independently, with technical review and guidance from experienced colleagues on more complex or unfamiliar work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing grid connection options, considering network capacity, costs, timescales and operational restrictions.
  • Preparing and reviewing grid connection applications, offers and agreements.
  • Supporting engagement with network operators and other stakeholders on behalf of clients.
  • Reviewing the technical, commercial and contractual requirements associated with grid connections.
  • Assessing network reinforcement requirements and opportunities to optimise connection arrangements.
  • Analysing curtailment risks and connection constraints.
  • Supporting technical and regulatory due diligence for project acquisitions and financing.
  • Analysing network information and development plans to inform project decisions.
  • Advising on electricity regulation, network charging and market developments, and assessing their implications for clients.
  • Preparing clear technical reports, presentations and recommendations.
  • Managing your assigned tasks to a high standard and contributing to project delivery within agreed budgets and timescales.

You will also support proposal preparation, including developing scopes of work and fee estimates, and contribute to technical articles and presentations where appropriate.

Depending on your interests and experience, you may have opportunities to work on wider assignments involving electricity markets, flexibility, innovation and network regulation.

The role requires strong analytical skills, clear written and spoken English, good technical report writing and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients across locations. Working hours will need to provide suitable overlap with the UK working day.

You will receive support from experienced colleagues and have opportunities to develop your technical expertise, client relationships and project management skills as our team grows.

The Individual

We are looking for an analytical and commercially aware individual with strong communication skills and experience in electricity networks, grid connections or energy consultancy.

The following experience and capabilities are required:

  • A degree in electrical engineering, power systems, energy or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in electricity networks, grid connections or regulatory advisory work.
  • An understanding of transmission and distribution networks and the requirements for connecting generation, storage and demand projects.
  • The ability to assess technical and commercial information, identify risks and provide practical recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret network data and technical documentation.
  • Clear technical report writing and excellent written and spoken English.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing tasks and deadlines.
  • A proactive approach, sound judgement and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • An interest in developing client relationships and contributing to proposals and consultancy assignments.

Experience with GB grid connection processes, electricity regulation, network charging or curtailment assessments would be beneficial, as would familiarity with Python or DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Candidates with relevant experience in other electricity markets and a willingness to develop UK expertise are also encouraged to apply.
