About the role

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic HLTA looking for a varied and rewarding role in a welcoming Junior School? We are seeking a confident, adaptable and proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a busy school in Carlisle on a temporary basis, supporting pupils and staff across the school. This role is ideally 5 days per week (Monday to Friday), although applications from candidates seeking 4 days per week will be considered, provided they are available to work on Mondays.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HLTA who enjoys variety and thrives in a dynamic school environment. You will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across different year groups, delivering planned learning during PPA time and providing cover for staff absences, ensuring pupils continue to receive a high-quality learning experience throughout the school day.

Working closely with teachers and school leaders, you will help maintain continuity of learning, create positive classroom environments and support pupils to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will be confident leading whole-class sessions when required, able to adapt quickly to different classes and year groups and committed to building positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents.

This rewarding role would suit a flexible and experienced HLTA who is passionate about making a difference in children’s education and enjoys being a valued member of a busy and supportive school team.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-planned lessons during teacher PPA time and staff absence cover.

• Lead whole-class learning activities across different year groups.

• Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.

• Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of individual pupils.

• Work closely with teaching staff to ensure continuity of learning.

• Manage classroom behaviour positively and effectively.

• Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups.

• Assist with assessment, recording pupil progress and providing feedback.

• Contribute to the preparation of classroom resources and learning activities.

• Promote a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Entry Requirements

HLTA status or equivalent relevant qualification and experience.

Previous experience working in a primary or junior school setting.

Confidence in leading whole class teaching and learning activities.

Strong classroom management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.

Flexible, adaptable and able to work across different classes and year groups in KS2.

Good understanding of the primary curriculum.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
