Apply NowThis is a rewarding opportunity for people who want to make a genuine difference to others’ lives by supporting tenants to live as independently as possible, make their own choices and participate fully in their home and community.
Southend Care has two Support Worker opportunities available: two full-time positions working 37.5 hours per week and one part-time position working 30 hours per week.
Although this role is predominantly based at our West Street location, there may be a requirement to work at our other tenanted services across the borough, where no two days are necessarily the same. You will work alongside tenants, colleagues, families, health professionals and other partner agencies to provide high-quality, person-centred support that promotes independence, dignity, choice and wellbeing.
We welcome applications from candidates seeking either full-time or part-time hours, however, please ensure to note on your application which one you are applying for.
About the role
As a Support Worker, you will provide practical, emotional and personal support that enables tenants to live fulfilling lives, exercise their rights and develop their independence and confidence.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Building positive, professional and trusting relationships with the people we support.
- Supporting tenants to make informed choices and develop their independence, confidence and self-advocacy skills.
- Supporting people to access their local community, services and facilities.
- Helping tenants develop everyday living skills, knowledge and confidence for the future.
- Acting as a key worker where required and contributing to the development, implementation and review of individual support and care plans.
- Contributing to risk assessments and ensuring support is delivered in accordance with agreed plans.
- Supporting tenants with budgeting, managing finances and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Providing support with benefits and completing relevant paperwork where required.
- Administering or prompting medication in accordance with your training, individual support plans and organisational procedures.
- Providing personal care where required, always maintaining dignity, privacy and respect.
- Supporting tenants to attend appointments, courses, activities, holidays and trips in accordance with their choices and wishes.
- Working alongside families, health professionals and external agencies to provide coordinated support.
- Supporting tenants with their health, medical, cultural and spiritual needs and providing advocacy where appropriate.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment and treating tenants’ belongings and personal property with care and respect.
- Maintaining accurate, factual and timely digital records, providing effective handovers and communicating important information appropriately.
- Recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns, incidents and other issues in line with organisational and local safeguarding procedures.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
- Working as part of a team and contributing positively to the overall running of the service.
- Supporting the Service Lead in maintaining and developing a high-quality service.
- Undertaking training and contributing to your own professional development.
- Promoting Southend Care’s values, principles and the rights and interests of the people we support.
You may also be asked to undertake other reasonable duties by the Service Lead that contribute to the effective delivery of the service.
Working pattern
Both the full-time and part-time positions follow a two-week rolling rota, running from Sunday to Saturday. Shifts include early shifts from 7.00am to 2.30pm and late shifts from 2.30pm to 10.00pm. The working pattern includes working every other weekend, regardless of whether you are employed for 37.5 or 30 hours per week. Applicants must be able to work flexibly across this rota to meet the needs of the service.
About you
We are looking for people who genuinely care about supporting others and share our commitment to person-centred practice, independence and empowerment.

- The confidence to work as part of a team and alongside other professionals.
- A willingness to undertake training and develop your knowledge and skills.
- An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of protecting vulnerable adults.
- A flexible and positive approach to working in a varied support environment.
Previous experience in health or social care, learning disabilities, supported living or a similar setting is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from people with transferable skills, the right values and a willingness to learn.
