About the role

We are looking for a skilled Residential Conveyancer to join our office-based team. You will handle a varied caseload of residential property matters from instruction through to completion and post-completion, delivering clear legal advice and excellent client service while ensuring transactions run smoothly and comply with regulations and firm procedures.

You will be part of a supportive firm dedicated to high-quality service. The role involves building strong client relationships, meeting key deadlines, improving processes and document management, and working closely with colleagues across the office.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act for clients on the full range of residential property work including sales, purchases, remortgages, transfers of equity and leasehold matters; manage files from instruction to completion and handle any required post-completion actions.

  • Draft, review and issue formal documentation such as contracts, transfer deeds, completion statements, SDLT returns and mortgage deed packages; ensure accuracy, compliance and professional presentation on all paperwork.

  • Liaise with clients, estate agents, lenders, local authorities, HM Land Registry, other firms and third parties to obtain searches, replies to enquiries, undertakings and required documentation; provide timely updates and clear advice to clients and colleagues.

  • Conduct and review property searches and reports, raise and respond to pre-contract enquiries, identify and advise on issues and propose practical solutions to progress transactions.

  • Manage the financial elements of transactions including obtaining redemption figures, preparing completion statements, arranging transfer of funds and ensuring client identification and anti-money laundering checks are completed in accordance with firm policy.

  • Maintain and update the case management system and electronic document management; open and close files, record accurate file notes and ensure documents and correspondence are saved and indexed in line with firm procedures.

  • Support billing processes by recording time accurately, preparing fee notes and assisting with fee and disbursement queries; escalate issues appropriately to line management.

Key skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a residential conveyancer or solicitor within a law firm or legal environment with a demonstrable track record of managing a varied caseload to completion.

  • Sound knowledge of residential property practice including Land Registry procedures, SDLT, leasehold and freehold matters, and common property searches and forms.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail and high standards of accuracy in drafting and document preparation.

  • Confident user of case management systems, electronic document management and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel); adaptable to new systems and document automation tools.

  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage multiple matters concurrently and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a professional and client-focused approach.

  • Good understanding of anti-money laundering requirements and firm compliance procedures; sound numeracy skills for preparing completion statements and handling client monies.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively within a team and liaise confidently with clients, lenders, estate agents and other professional contacts.
