Electrical Engineering Intern – Summer 2027

Location: 11075 Roselle Street, San Diego, CA 92121
Pay: $20–$30 per hour
Job type: Internship, Full-time
Duration: 8–12 weeks, Summer 2027

About Fabric8Labs

Fabric8Labs, headquartered in San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. Our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process enables new approaches to manufacturing complex metal components.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Intern to join our engineering team for an 8–12 week internship during Summer 2027.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on engineering internship for students excited about building, controlling, and troubleshooting complex machines.

You will work alongside our Electrical, Software, and cross-functional engineering teams on the electrical systems that power and control our ECAM printers. Projects may include embedded firmware, machine controls, power electronics, PCBAs, sensors, motors, and electrical system integration.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and test embedded firmware and machine-control functionality.
  • Support the design, integration, and testing of electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Work with power electronics, PCBAs, sensors, motors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
  • Build test setups and perform hands-on electrical testing and debugging.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and system-level issues on ECAM printers.
  • Collect and analyze test data to evaluate system performance and reliability.
  • Work directly with engineers and technicians to prototype, test, and iterate on new designs.
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Own a defined engineering project and present your work at the conclusion of the internship.

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Expected graduation date in 2028 or 2029.
  • Strong interest in embedded systems, firmware, power electronics, controls, robotics, or machine development.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical or electromechanical systems through coursework, personal projects, clubs, competitions, or previous internships.
  • Familiarity with C/C++, Python, microcontrollers, or embedded systems is a plus.
  • Comfortable using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and logic analyzers.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a willingness to work directly with hardware.
  • Self-motivated and excited to take a system from design → integration → test → iteration.

Application Questions

  • Will you now, or in the future, require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H-1B visa status)?
  • Are you interested in a full-time (30+ hrs/week) internship?
  • Our internship program will be held over Summer 2027, and interns will be required to be available for the entire length of the program, 8–12 weeks. If extended an offer, when would you be able to start?
  • Are you currently enrolled and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, computer science, or another relevant engineering field?
  • When do you expect to be available for full-time (permanent) work?

Ability to commute: San Diego, CA 92121 (Required)
