This is a varied and influential role that combines compliance management, auditing, incident investigation, driver safety, training oversight, and stakeholder engagement. You’ll be responsible for supporting our ongoing commitment to health and safety whilst helping to ensure our transport and logistics activities operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Person Specification

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented health and safety professional who is passionate about creating safe working environments and supporting operational teams to achieve high standards of compliance.

You will be confident engaging with colleagues at all levels, capable of investigating issues, identifying root causes, and implementing practical solutions. You’ll be organised, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple priorities whilst working independently.

Experience within transport, logistics, fleet operations, or a related industry would be highly beneficial, along with a strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Transport and Logistics teams in maintaining a safe working environment and driving continuous improvement in health and safety performance

  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated regulations
  • Provide guidance and support to Transport Managers and Regional Logistics Managers on occupational health and safety requirements
  • Act as the first point of contact for Transport and Logistics employees on day-to-day health and safety matters
  • Monitor the compliance of external haulage providers and work with relevant stakeholders to address non-compliance
  • Support and oversee driver training requirements in line with DVSA, FORS, MPA, and customer standards
  • Review near misses, incidents, collision data, and investigations to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Investigate and respond to safety concerns raised by employees, customers, and suppliers
  • Support pre-qualification questionnaires, tenders, and compliance submissions
  • Ensure health and safety compliance within vehicle maintenance and workshop environments
  • Represent the Transport & Logistics function at internal health, safety, wellbeing, and management system meetings
  • Monitor health and safety reporting, investigate root causes, and oversee corrective actions through business reporting systems
  • Manage FORS accreditation activities and support ISO 39001 road traffic safety management requirements

  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload independently
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Apps
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across multiple departments

Desirable

  • Previous experience within transport, logistics, fleet, construction, aggregates, or a related operational environment
  • NEBOSH or a similar recognised health and safety qualification
  • Experience conducting safety audits and incident investigations
