About the Role

Join Day Group as a Logistics Coordinator supporting our Crawley and Shoreham depots on a 14-month fixed-term maternity cover contract, and play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of materials across our operations.

Working as part of a busy logistics team, you’ll coordinate customer orders, vehicle scheduling, material movements, and haulage requirements across two busy operational sites. Acting as a central point of contact for customers, drivers, contract hauliers, and depot teams, you’ll help ensure deliveries are completed efficiently, customer expectations are met, and day-to-day operations run smoothly.

This is a varied role that combines transport planning, administration, customer service, and operational coordination. You’ll be responsible for supporting the movement of materials across the South East while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and service throughout the contract period.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within a leading aggregates and recycling business, working in a collaborative environment where no two days are the same.

Person Specification

We’re looking for an organised and adaptable individual who can confidently balance customer service, administration, transport coordination, and operational support.

You’ll be comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, from customers and suppliers to drivers and site teams, and capable of making informed decisions in a busy operational environment. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage changing priorities are essential.

Experience within aggregates, waste management, recycling, construction materials, or transport operations would be advantageous, although we welcome applications from candidates with transferable logistics and planning experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate customer orders, transport requests, and operational enquiries
  • Plan incoming materials, outgoing deliveries, and internal transfers across Crawley, Shoreham, and the wider Day Group network
  • Manage vehicle allocations across the Company's HGV fleet and external haulage providers
  • Source, engage, and coordinate third-party hauliers to meet operational requirements
  • Operate and manage weighbridge activities, ensuring accurate vehicle and material records
  • Conduct driver, contractor, and haulier inductions in accordance with depot procedures
  • Administer Waste Transfer Notes and associated logistics documentation where required
  • Monitor transport activity and respond proactively to operational changes or delivery issues
  • Liaise with customers, drivers, suppliers, and operational teams to ensure service levels are maintained
  • Process transport administration including invoicing support, vehicle earnings, and driver-related records
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, compliance, and environmental performance
  • Maintain accurate records to support operational reporting and regulatory requirements

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly over the telephone
  • Good geographical knowledge and route-planning awareness
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping abilities
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Professional, customer-focused approach and strong problem-solving capability

Desirable

  • Experience within logistics, transport, aggregates, recycling, waste management, or construction materials
  • Understanding of HGV scheduling and transport operations
  • Knowledge of drivers' hours legislation and Working Time Directive requirements
  • Experience using transport management, weighbridge, or operational software systems
  • Familiarity with Waste Transfer Notes and material movement documentation
  • Knowledge of depot health and safety procedures and compliance requirements
  • Experience coordinating subcontracted haulage providers
