Job description
Two seniors — a married couple — are being cared for in a medium-sized town in Germany. An 87-year-old lady (160 cm, 64 kg) and an 88-year-old gentleman (170 cm, 82 kg). The lady (care level 3) is fully oriented, without dementia, with clear speech and vision; communication should be clear and face-to-face. She moves independently in the house using a wheelchair, transfers to the wheelchair by herself, and needs support for longer distances; she can stand briefly with assistance. She does not have incontinence, eats and uses the toilet independently, and manages dressing, undressing, and daily hygiene (including showering) with partial assistance. She has food allergies/intolerances. The gentleman (care level 5) suffers from advanced dementia/Alzheimer's — short-term memory is gone, lacking temporal, spatial, and personal orientation, but he can still express his needs; hearing and vision are age-appropriate. He is mostly bedridden, transfers to the wheelchair via a lift, and has urinary and fecal incontinence (diapers, bed care). He is fully dependent on assistance for dressing, toilet, and hygiene; requires partial help with meals (cutting food, ensuring hydration). Medications are prepared and administered according to schedule. The caregiver also cooks, shops, cleans, does laundry, and shovels snow in winter; accompanies the lady to the doctor/hairdresser, maintains the daily routine, and provides companionship. Night service is not required. Accommodation is a 200 m² family house; the caregiver has a private room and a separate bathroom with a toilet, shower, and bidet, and internet (WLAN). Free time is negotiable, with a preference for half days. Caregiver requirements: female, good knowledge of German, non-smoker preferred, driver's license is an advantage (available Mercedes class C, automatic).

Frequently asked questions - Carers
Do you charge fees?
You don't pay our employment agency anything at all. We believe it is not right to charge people money in order to enable them to work, and so we offer assistance in finding job positions completely free of charge.
Do I have to be self-employed?Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.
Do I need a caregiving course to work as a caregiver?A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.
How long will it take you to find me a family?Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.
Can you help me travel? Who pays for the trip?If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.
How long are rotations usually?
In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.
What is the salary and what does it depend on?In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.
What level of German do I need to have for a carer job?In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.
Do you also offer work for male carers?Yes, we successfully place male caregivers with families too.
