Resident Server Engineer – Data Centre Operations

Oslo, Norway

Permanent, full-time 100% · Target start date: January 2027 (project-dependent)

Teconergy is a globally oriented IT service provider specialising in data centre operations and maintenance. We deliver on-site hardware support for enterprise and AI server environments across Europe, working to strict service level agreements (SLAs) for international technology clients.

As a Resident Server Engineer, you are based permanently at one of our clients' data centres, in a team that covers the site 24/7. You keep the server fleet running: you patrol the halls, spot problems before they cause outages, fix hardware faults on the spot and follow every incident through to resolution.

What you'll do

  • Carry out inspection rounds at least every 4 hours and record findings in a patrol report
  • Monitor equipment status and alarms, and resolve risks before they cause downtime
  • Troubleshoot server faults using BMC logs, diagnostic tools and Linux commands, and replace failed parts (memory, CPUs, disks, power supplies, boards, GPUs)
  • Handle repair tickets on site following the client's procedures, with accurate time stamps and repair descriptions
  • Own incidents during your shift: coordinate with the data centre operator and technical support, and escalate when needed
  • Use batch tools for firmware updates and server configuration across many machines
  • Manage the on-site spare parts stock and keep inventory records accurate
  • Write a shift handover and duty report, and follow all data centre safety and ESD rules
  • Manage on-site asset inventory tracking, stock movements and defective component returns (RMA)
  • Perform physical hardware replacement and cabling checks on server infrastructure, including GPU servers, optical transceivers and high-density cabling

What you bring

  • Education in IT, electronics or similar, or equivalent training and certification
  • Junior: relevant training with some hands-on hardware experience. Medium: 1–3 years in data centre operations or server support
  • Good knowledge of rack server hardware; at medium level also blade, multi-node or GPU servers
  • Proficiency with basic physical and electronic hand tools (e.g. torque screwdrivers, ESD safety gear, label printers, cable testers)
  • Familiarity with remote management tools (BMC/IPMI) and hardware logs
  • Basic Linux commands, networking basics and an understanding of RAID
  • Disciplined, process-driven way of working and clear communication
  • Willingness to work a 24/7 shift rotation, including nights, weekends and public holidays
  • Able to pass a background check and commute reliably to the site at any hour
  • Willingness and ability to successfully complete the vendor/supplier interview, qualification training and technical assessment

Nice to have: experience in large-scale or AI data centres, batch deployment tools, storage systems, or certifications such as CompTIA A+ / Server+.

Languages: fluent local language and English required; Mandarin Chinese is a strong advantage. (Norwegian)

We offer

  • Full training and manufacturer certification on enterprise server products
  • A permanent base at a modern, large-scale data centre with current AI infrastructure
  • Competitive salary plus shift allowances
  • An international, multilingual team (English and Mandarin) and a clear path to senior or team-lead roles
