At TDR, we partner with local businesses to provide top-tier advice, support, and training in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Science apprenticeships. Our comprehensive programmes lay the strongest foundations for those passionate about building a rewarding career in STEM.
About the role:
As a Training Officer, you’ll help apprentices turn workplace experience into real skill and a recognised qualification. You’ll manage your own group of learners, visit them at work, and guide them through to their end-point assessment.
This is a general role. We want people from a range of engineering backgrounds, including:
- Mechanical engineering or maintenance.
- Machining, including manual and CNC.
- Quality, inspection and continuous improvement.
- Engineering technical support.
- Manage a caseload of engineering apprentices from start to finish.
- Visit learners at work, usually every 4 to 6 weeks, to check progress and set clear targets.
- Coach apprentices to build their knowledge, skills and behaviours against their apprenticeship standard.
- Help learners build a strong portfolio of evidence.
- Prepare apprentices for their end-point assessment.
- Support learners with English, maths and digital skills where needed.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date records on our learner systems.
- Hold regular progress reviews with apprentices and their line managers.
- Build good working relationships with employers.
- Spot learners who are falling behind or struggling, and act early.
- Follow our safeguarding, Prevent, and health and safety duties.
- Relevant industrial/vocational experience and qualifications in engineering and manufacturing.
- Good IT skills and confidence using online systems.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car for work visits.
- Patience, and a real interest in helping people learn
- An assessor qualification (TAQA, A1 or CAVA), or willingness to work towards one.
- A teaching qualification (such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training), or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience of training, mentoring or supervising apprentices.
- Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and end-point assessment.
- A Level 4 qualification or above in engineering.
- Competitive Salary
- Company Pension
- Life Assurance
- CPD Annual Allowance
- Company Laptop
- Business Mileage
- Wellbeing Package
- Free on-site parking
- A minimum of 25 days holiday per year, plus 8 Bank Holidays
- Up to 4 additional days of holiday to reward long-term service
