The role has a particular focus on community specialist palliative care, supporting patients and their families across a range of settings, including patients’ homes, community hospitals, acute hospitals and specialist inpatient units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist clinical care for patients requiring palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring excellent symptom control and holistic assessment.

  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centred support to patients and their families across community and hospital settings.

  • Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues, GPs, Clinical Nurse Specialist teams, allied health professionals and voluntary sector partners.

  • Participate in a 1:7 non-resident on-call rota, providing telephone advice and occasional direct assessments.

  • Contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, junior doctors and other healthcare professionals.

  • Support clinical supervision and departmental education programmes.

  • Participate in clinical audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of specialist palliative care services.

  • MRCP qualification.

  • Ability to participate in the on-call rota.

  • Strong clinical leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Evidence of teaching and training undergraduate or postgraduate clinical staff.

  • Experience initiating, progressing and completing clinical audits.

  • A commitment to continuous improvement and the delivery of compassionate, high-quality patient care.

Desirable Experience

  • Additional relevant qualifications or a diploma.

  • A teaching qualification or higher qualification in medical education.

  • Experience in the development or commissioning of palliative care services.

  • Research experience in palliative care or a related field.

  • Knowledge of improvement science and quality improvement methodologies.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of specialist palliative care services within a collaborative clinical environment.
