The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality care for older patients, particularly those living with frailty and complex medical needs. The position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively across acute and community services, helping improve patient outcomes, support timely discharge and reduce avoidable hospital admissions.
The role has a particular focus on orthogeriatrics and the care of older patients with fractures, alongside wider responsibilities within geriatric medicine and frailty services.
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide specialist consultant-level care for older patients with complex medical needs and frailty.
-
Contribute to orthogeriatric services, supporting the assessment and management of older patients admitted with fractures and other orthopaedic conditions.
-
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.
-
Support admission avoidance, early assessment and safe, timely discharge planning.
-
Contribute to the development and improvement of services for older people.
-
Provide clinical leadership and support to junior medical colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
-
Participate in teaching, training and continuing professional development.
-
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.
-
Support effective communication and collaborative working across relevant clinical services.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have:
-
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
-
Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine or the relevant specialty requirements for the post.
-
A Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Geriatric Medicine, or equivalent recognised specialist training.
-
Experience in the assessment and management of older patients with complex medical needs.
-
Strong clinical decision-making and multidisciplinary working skills.
-
The ability to provide effective clinical leadership and contribute to service development.
-
A commitment to high standards of patient care, clinical governance and ongoing professional development.
Experience in orthogeriatrics, frailty pathways and the management of older patients with fractures would be particularly relevant.

This is a permanent consultant appointment offering 10 programmed activities per week, with opportunities to contribute to clinical service development, teaching and multidisciplinary working.
