About the role

Portland Harbour Authority operates a fleet of harbour craft including tugs and pilot boats, all of which operate in accordance with Workboat Code Edition 3.

We are currently seeking to expand our casual marine crew roster to support operations across three tugs and two pilot boats.

Applications are invited from individuals with a marine background (preferred but not essential), who are looking to gain experience working within a commercial harbour environment.

Minimum requirements:

  • Valid ML5 or ENG1 medical certificate
  • Personal Survival Techniques (STCW) or RYA Basic Sea Survival
  • MCA-approved First Aid (Desirable but not essential)
  • MCA-approved 1-day Firefighting course (Desirable but not essential)

Relevant qualifications are required for all crew roles. However, training will be provided for suitable candidates, particularly those demonstrating the right attitude and willingness to learn.

Experience in towage or pilotage support operations would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Successful applicants will be engaged on a casual basis to support harbour operations as required.

Those wishing to be considered for a place on the casual roster should download, complete and return the registration form.
