Role: Front End Developer

As a Front End Developer, you will work closely with our senior developers, account managers and occasionally the client directly to create wordpress and shopify websites. This role will involve a mix of front-end and back-end development with some design responsibilities. 

Ideally, you can also grow into contributing to plugin development, and infrastructure / internal systems development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain WordPress & Shopify websites and themes.
• Implement and modify existing WordPress & Shopify themes and plugins according to project requirements.
• Write clean, well-documented, and efficient code.
• Troubleshoot and resolve website and plugin issues.
• Work with our SEO team to optimise websites for performance, accessibility, and SEO.
• Support and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes/client management tools.

We are looking for a Front End Developer to join a small collaborative team who can help take the business to the next level. A Bit About You

Requirements and Desirable Skills:

• Ideally a degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or related field, OR equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in WordPress and/or Shopify, including theme and plugin development.
• Solid understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS / SASS, JavaScript/ jQuery, any additional frameworks such as react, angular, vue would be a bonus.
• Familiarity with PHP and MySQL for back-end development.
• Familiarity with companion tools and protocols such as SMTP/IMAP configurations, DNS management, Redis / caching, image optimisation, Cloudflare etc would be a bonus.
• Experience with responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
• Basic understanding of UI/UX principles and web design best practices.
• Knowledge of design tools such as Affinity / Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) or Figma & Canva.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.

• Experience with page builders like Elementor, WPBakery, or Gutenberg.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Basic knowledge of SEO best practices
• Awareness of security best practices for WordPress.

Your Day To Day

As a Front End Developer at Outrank, here’s what a typical day will look like:

• Morning Check-In: Begin with a brief team meeting to align on daily priorities and update everyone on your projects.
• Development Work: Most of your day will be focused on building and customising WordPress & Shopify sites, from coding and integrating designs to adjusting themes and plugins to meet project requirements.
• Collaboration: You’ll work closely with the SEO and design teams to ensure the websites are optimised for performance and user experience.
• Problem Solving: Address any development challenges as they arise, whether it’s fixing bugs or optimising site functionality.
• Client Interaction: Occasionally, you might join calls with clients to discuss their needs and receive feedback on your work.
