Pre-Assessment Nurse

Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our team at Thorpe Park Head Office. 

The Pre-Assessment Nurse plays a pivotal role in ensuring patients receive safe, effective and person-centred care throughout their endoscopy pathway. The post holder will undertake comprehensive pre-assessment consultations, identify clinical risks, determine patient suitability for community-based endoscopy services and provide expert advice and support to patients before their procedure.

Responsibility

• Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care in the pre-assessment environment.
• Serve as the first clinical contact, ensuring appropriate management of key health conditions (e.g., anticoagulation, diabetes, comorbidities) in line with community-based service protocols.
• Conduct comprehensive pre-assessment consultations using telephone and digital platforms.
• Undertake detailed medical histories and clinical risk assessments.
• Assess patient suitability for community-based endoscopy procedures.
• Review medications including anticoagulants, antiplatelets and diabetic therapies.
• Provide clear preparation instructions and patient education.
• Maintain accurate electronic clinical records.
• Triage referrals and ensure compliance with JAG, CQC, NICE and NHS guidance.
• Participate in audit, governance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support and mentor healthcare assistants and junior colleagues.

Skills and competencies

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Significant post-registration clinical experience.
• Knowledge of endoscopy pathways and JAG standards are preferrable
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Experience using electronic patient record systems. Good IT Skills and ability to work with online programmes such as SystmOne.
