End-of-studies internship | 6 months | Nice
Larka is looking for its future team members!
We want to build the Larka of tomorrow around curious, autonomous young talents who are passionate about AI. We are looking for a Data Scientist / AI Engineer for a 6-month end-of-studies internship.
Who We Are
Based in Nice, Larka is a strategy consulting firm specializing in the Biotech & Pharma industries.
We support pharmaceutical groups, biotechs, investment funds and institutions with their growth, strategy and transaction challenges.
Alongside our consulting activities, we are developing our own Business Intelligence platform dedicated to life sciences, combining proprietary data, automation and artificial intelligence to accelerate the collection, structuring and analysis of information.
What You Will Do
You will contribute to the development of our Knowledge Center, a platform used by our consultants and clients to monitor and analyze the Biotech & Pharma ecosystem: financings, M&A, companies, clinical trials, products, technologies, news and scientific data.
A. Develop our AI and NLP systems
A significant part of your mission will focus on leveraging text data and developing AI systems able to understand, structure and analyze it.
- Develop NLP pipelines for classification, information extraction, NER, entity matching, clustering and document analysis
- Integrate and orchestrate various LLMs via API
- Design workflows combining prompting, structured outputs, tool calling and retrieval
- Turn unstructured data into reliable, actionable information
- Set up datasets, metrics and automated evaluations to measure and improve performance
- Experiment with proprietary and open-source models as needed
B. Design agentic AI systems
You will contribute to the development of AI agents integrated directly into our platform and business workflows.
- Design agents able to reason about a task, select tools and execute actions
- Enable agents to interact with APIs, search engines, databases and internal services
- Develop multi-step and multi-agent architectures when use cases justify it
- Design mechanisms for context management, memory, retrieval and result validation
- Improve the reliability, traceability, performance and costs of agentic workflows
- Turn AI experiments into robust, production-ready features
C. Build the data infrastructure they rely on
- Design pipelines to collect and process data from APIs, databases, documents and web sources
- Develop ETL/ELT workflows on structured and unstructured data
- Set up asynchronous processing, queues / message brokers and orchestration mechanisms
- Clean, normalize, deduplicate and enrich data
- Ensure pipeline quality, traceability and monitoring
D. Explore and experiment
The AI ecosystem evolves quickly. You will actively monitor new models, agentic architectures, frameworks and NLP techniques, with the goal of quickly identifying the technologies relevant to our use cases.
Your Profile
You are in the final year of an engineering school or equivalent program, specializing in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science or software engineering.
Above all, we are looking for someone who enjoys building AI systems, experimenting with new models and solving complex problems around data and language.
As our platform is directly applied to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, a background in natural or life sciences — notably biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related disciplines — will be highly valued. This dual expertise will help you better understand the data you work with and fully integrate AI solutions into the business processes of our teams and clients.
Hard Skills
Required:
- Excellent command of Python
- Solid knowledge of NLP and Machine Learning
- Good understanding of how LLMs work and of their limitations
- Hands-on experience using LLMs via API
- Command of the main associated patterns: prompting, structured outputs, tool/function calling
- Good command of pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn and SQL
- Solid foundations in algorithms and software development
- Proficiency with Git
Nice to have:
- Experience developing AI agents and agentic workflows
- RAG, embeddings, semantic search and vector databases
- NLP: classification, NER, information extraction, entity matching, clustering
- LLM and agent orchestration frameworks or SDKs
- PyTorch, Transformers and Hugging Face
- Designing evaluation systems for LLMs / agents
- ETL/ELT pipelines, asynchronous processing and queue systems
- FastAPI, Docker and API architectures
- PostgreSQL and document / vector databases
- Cloud environments, especially AWS
- Education or knowledge in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacology or another scientific discipline relevant to the Pharma & Biotech industries
We are not necessarily looking for someone who already masters this entire stack. We particularly value an understanding of concepts, the ability to learn quickly and the desire to experiment with the latest advances in AI.
Soft Skills
- Strong curiosity about AI and its developments
- Autonomy and proactivity
- Rigor and attention to detail
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate with both technical and business profiles
- Strong ability to learn and adapt
