We are looking for a Data Engineer / Software Developer to join Explicell’s interdisciplinary R&D team and take part in delivering the CUSTOMED project within IPCEI Med4Cure.

The stated salary is the guaranteed minimum base salary. The exact amount will be agreed individually, depending on the selected candidate’s professional experience, knowledge and competencies.

Duties and responsibilities

The CUSTOMED project brings together digital processing of patient data, personalised design, biofabrication, testing and validation.

Your role will be to design and develop the data and software infrastructure that connects clinical, imaging, experimental and process data securely, reliably and efficiently, and prepares them for further processing, AI models, simulations and digital biomedical solutions.

Your work will mainly include:

• Designing and implementing scalable data pipelines

• Integrating clinical, imaging, experimental and process data

• Transforming and harmonising data from different sources

• Developing backend services, APIs and integration interfaces

• Preparing data for AI models, simulations and digital, data-driven biomedical solutions

• Implementing data security and access management

• Monitoring the reliability, performance and availability of data services

• Identifying and resolving incidents related to data flows and integrations

• Creating and maintaining technical documentation of data flows, system interfaces and integration solutions

Who we are looking for

Education

A university degree in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, software engineering or another relevant technical field.

What we expect

• Practical experience in designing and implementing data pipelines
• Knowledge of Python and SQL, experience with backend development
• Experience in designing ETL/ELT processes
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases
• Knowledge of data modelling and data schema design
• The ability to monitor data processes, identify problems and solve them systematically
• A basic understanding of authentication, authorisation and access rights management
• The ability to write clear technical documentation
• Analytical and systematic thinking
• Independence and responsibility for assigned tasks and outputs
• The ability to work in an interdisciplinary R&D team
• A proactive approach to communication and solving technical problems

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the healthcare data standards DICOM, HL7 or FHIR
• Experience with integrating PACS or hospital information systems
• Experience with processing CT, MRI or other medical imaging data
• Knowledge of working with metadata and of the principles of anonymising and pseudonymising health data
• Experience in preparing and processing data for AI and machine-learning models
• Knowledge of MLOps, DataOps or data lifecycle management principles
• Experience with versioning datasets and experimental outputs
• Experience with validating data pipelines or software systems
• Experience in designing disaster recovery, backup and data restore solutions
• Experience with optimising the processing of large medical datasets
