About the role
Job Title: Assistant Garment Technologist
Role Type: Full Time, Permanent
Department: Design
Reports to: Product Developer Manager
Location: Baker Street, London
The role
You’ll support the sampling team to get every Derek Rose garment fitting, feeling and performing exactly as it should, from first proto to approved production sample. Alongside this, you’ll own sample management for the London office, making sure the right sample is in the right place, properly tracked, at the right time.
This is a hands-on junior role with real responsibility. You’ll learn our fit standards, construction methods and fabric expertise from the inside, and become the person every team relies on to know where a sample is and what stage it’s at.
Key responsibilities
Support the Product Development Manager and Garment Technologist with the day-to-day running of the development process.
Prepare for and assist in fit sessions, measuring samples, taking photographs and recording comments accurately, and flagging any concerns.
Write up clear fit comments and measurement feedback, and share them with suppliers.
Build and maintain tech packs, measurement specs and grading information under the guidance of the Garment Technologist.
Check construction, trims, labels and finishing against approved standards, and raise anything that falls short.
Track fabric and garment test reports, chasing suppliers for outstanding information.
Run the London office sample tracker, logging every sample in and out with its stage, location, owner and return date.
Coordinate samples for photoshoots, press requests and sales meetings.
Manage courier requests, bookings and paperwork.
About you
A degree or equivalent qualification in garment technology, fashion technology or a related subject, and 1–2 years’ relevant experience (a placement year counts).
A working knowledge of garment construction, measuring and fit.
Confident with Excel and quick to learn a new tracking system.
Exceptionally organised, with an eye for detail. You notice when something is a few millimetres out, or when a sample has gone missing.
Clear, accurate written communication, including with overseas suppliers.
Able to juggle requests from several teams calmly and prioritise sensibly.
Nice to have
Experience with knitwear, jersey or fine woven fabrics.
Sewing or pattern-cutting skills.
Experience with a PLM system or Adobe Illustrator.
Direct applications only. No recruitment agencies.
