The Opportunity

We are working with an established organisation within construction to recruit an experienced Senior Financial Controller.

This is an important position within the finance function, offering responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial controls. Working closely with senior leadership and operational teams, you will provide commercial insight, support strategic decision-making and help drive financial performance across the business.

We’re looking for a technically strong, commercially minded finance professional who can combine detailed financial oversight with a proactive approach to business partnering and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee divisional financial reporting, including monthly management accounts and performance analysis.
  • Manage month-end processes, ensuring journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting activities, analysing financial results and investigating variances.
  • Provide commercial insight into project costs, margins, work in progress (WIP) and contract profitability.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, customer balances and supplier payments.
  • Work closely with operational and commercial managers to identify financial risks, control costs and improve business performance.
  • Maintain robust financial controls, accounting procedures and compliance with relevant reporting requirements.
  • Support VAT submissions, year-end processes and external audit activity.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting processes and wider business procedures.
  • Provide financial guidance and support informed decision-making across the organisation.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as CA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar senior finance position.
  • Strong technical knowledge of management accounts, financial reporting, VAT and audit.
  • Experience in contract accounting, work in progress and project profitability reporting.
  • A solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial controls.
  • Confidence using ERP or accounting systems and Microsoft 365.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial information to support business decisions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside finance and operational teams.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
