About This Role
Permanent | Full Time | Saltash, Cornwall | UK & International Travel
Salary: £35,000–£50,000 depending on experience
Location: You should live within daily commuting distance of our Saltash facility.
As a Control Systems Engineer at Composite Integration, you’ll play a key role in developing the control systems and software that monitor, regulate and automate our specialist composite manufacturing equipment.
From developing control system concepts and PLC software through to testing, commissioning and supporting equipment at customer sites, this is a practical engineering role that combines software development, automation, problem-solving and hands-on engineering.
You’ll be involved in the design and development of automated machinery, equipment and processes for closed mould composite manufacturing, as well as providing technical support to projects and customers globally.
You’ll work closely with colleagues, suppliers and clients worldwide, contributing to projects that range from luxury marine components to aerospace innovation. No two days are the same; one moment you could be developing or refining control software, the next testing equipment in our workshop or supporting commissioning on a customer’s factory floor.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and develop control systems for specialist composite manufacturing machinery and equipment
- Develop, program and modify PLC-based control systems
- Develop control system concepts, software specifications and supporting documentation
- Support the design and integration of electrical and electronic control systems
- Research new solutions, technologies and techniques to enhance our equipment and processes
- Support the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through to build, testing, commissioning and customer handover
- Test, troubleshoot and optimise control systems during equipment build and commissioning
- Support fault-finding and problem-solving across control, electrical and automated systems
- Support on-site commissioning and testing of equipment in the UK and internationally
- Provide training and technical support to clients’ engineers and operators
- Collaborate with colleagues on sales enquiries, quotations and technical problem-solving
- Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation
- Maintain technical expertise and knowledge of emerging control and automation technologies
- Ensure work meets relevant quality, health and safety requirements
This is a role where your ideas matter, your skills grow and your work has a tangible impact on the future of composite technology.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re curious, practical and able to combine software and controls knowledge with an understanding of how machinery operates in a real manufacturing environment.
We’re particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable taking control systems from concept and programming through to testing, troubleshooting and commissioning on physical equipment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Relevant engineering qualification such as a degree, HNC, HND or apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience

- Experience developing, modifying, testing or troubleshooting control software
- Strong technical understanding with the ability to develop accurate, practical engineering solutions
- Understanding of electrical and electronic control systems
- Ability to interpret relevant technical information, schematics and engineering documentation
- Practical understanding of equipment testing, commissioning and fault-finding
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and work effectively with colleagues, suppliers and clients
