The Role

We’re looking for an infrastructure engineer who can take ownership of our infrastructure, balancing core enterprise IT with the scalable cloud backends behind our products.

You understand how to build resilient, secure, and reproducible systems. That means anticipating failure modes, replacing manual operations with automation, keeping security tight, and handling day-to-day operations, so both internal systems and mission-critical customer environments keep running.

You won’t just work through a predefined ticket queue. We expect you to ask questions like:

  • Is our corporate data fully secured and compliant with ISO security standards?
  • How do we make deployments invisible and zero-downtime for high-availability systems?
  • Is this infrastructure configuration fully reproducible and testable?

We expect engineers to follow a problem across whatever parts of the system are necessary, from corporate cloud accounts to local deployment testbeds.

The Environment We Manage

You’ll be responsible for three areas:

  • Internal Company Infrastructure: Managing, monitoring, and securing our core enterprise systems, including corporate web services, internal APIs, identity, access control, and daily IT operations. A primary focus here is implementing and maintaining strict ISO security compliance across our corporate environment.
  • Buttons Cloud: Operating the cloud backend that powers our applications. Because this infrastructure supports mission-critical, high-availability workflows, it needs strong resilience, strict uptime guarantees, and redundant deployment pipelines.
  • Buttons On-Prem / Edge Installs: Supporting the deployment architectures, network, and local edge configurations used by customers running Buttons locally on physical hardware.

Our Stack

  • Cloud & Containers: AWS (EC2, EKS/ECS, VPC, S3), Kubernetes (k8s/k3s), Docker and on-prem Proxmox test environments
  • Infrastructure as Code: Moving our infrastructure to code is a top priority. You’ll have a primary say in selecting and implementing the tooling (e.g., Terraform or Ansible).
  • Tooling & Operations: GitHub Actions, Prometheus, Grafana, Linux server administration
  • Security & Governance: ISO 27001 / security frameworks, access management, system hardening

You do not need deep experience with every technology listed here, but we expect you to be curious about new tools and workflows.

How We Automate

We automate to eliminate toil. We use scripting and AI-assisted tools extensively for provisioning, log analysis, debugging, and operational tasks. This lets a lean team manage complex hybrid environments.

We’re looking for someone comfortable using modern tooling aggressively to cut manual work, while taking full operational responsibility for enterprise security, system stability, and day-to-day IT reliability.

What We Hope You Bring

  • Systems Ownership: You’re comfortable managing enterprise IT operations alongside high-availability cloud infrastructure, rather than treating operations as someone else’s problem.
  • Security & Compliance Mindset: You understand the importance of system hardening, access management, and structured IT operations. You’re ready to take an active role in aligning our day-to-day operations with ISO security standards.
  • Automation Mindset: You have an allergic reaction to manual, repetitive toil. If you have to do something more than twice, you script it or build an IaC pipeline.
  • Operational Judgment: You know when to ship a pragmatic operational fix and when to invest in deep redundancy, automated pipelines, or stronger architecture.
  • Communication & Autonomy: We’re a small team. You should be comfortable working independently, documenting your architecture clearly, and communicating clearly in writing and in conversation.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Norwegian is a bonus.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with or implementing ISO security frameworks
  • Low-level network knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, firewalls)
  • Go, Python, or Bash scripting for infrastructure automation
  • Experience with low-latency, live broadcast environments

If some of this sounds unfamiliar but interesting, you should still apply.

What You’ll Get

Ownership

Lead our infrastructure strategy while collaborating closely with the team to refine ideas.

Interesting technical problems

Bridging the cloud with physical hardware, managing low-latency hybrid networks, and scaling systems for global enterprise use.

Remote that actually means remote

Our home base is in Oslo, and we’d love to find someone who wants to work from the office, but it isn’t a requirement. We already have team members working fully remotely from Germany, the UK, and the US.

A team that likes hard problems

You’ll join a group of people who enjoy solving hard problems together.

People from many backgrounds

Our team comes from all sorts of backgrounds: live-production veterans, project management, IT, travel agency, broadcast, cloud specialists, and people straight from school. You’ll help shape where Bitfocus goes next.

High impact, low bureaucratic noise

In a small, fast-moving startup, your work is immediately visible. Your decisions directly shape both the product and how we build engineering culture.

A fun, inclusive place to build

We take our product seriously because our users operate in high-stakes live environments, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’ve built an inclusive culture made up of all kinds of personalities and backgrounds. Expect a warm, open, collaborative team, with plenty of laughs along the way.

About Bitfocus

We make complex broadcast and AV control feel simple.

Bitfocus was founded in Oslo in 2018 by people from live production who were tired of bloated, legacy systems. Our roots are in Bitfocus Companion, our open-source control platform trusted by over 300,000 live operators worldwide. Today, we’re building Buttons: a platform that orchestrates hundreds of target systems across broadcast galleries, master control rooms, corporate events, and massive live performance spaces.

We’re a small team that takes real pride in Buttons. Individual ownership is high, and engineering has significant influence over both the product and how we build it.

Building the product takes more than code: design, brand strategy, customer understanding, and a team with many skills working toward the same goal. We work like a startup: fast-paced, pragmatic, and focused on progress over bureaucracy.

Our customers rely on us during high-stakes live events. That’s why we balance startup speed with a commitment to craft, human-centered UX, and rock-solid system reliability.

Interested?

If you’re looking for a fast-paced environment where your infrastructure design directly impacts thousands of live production users every day, we’d like to hear from you.

Application deadline: November 15th (applications evaluated continuously)
