Nencki-EMBL Center of Excellence for Neural Plasticity and Brain Disorders: BRAINCITY
Project is carried out within the MAB/IRA programme of the Foundation for Polish Science
Project description:
BRAINCITY is a cutting-edge research center formed through a strategic partnership between the Nencki Institute and EMBL, funded by the Foundation for Polish Science. It focuses on neural plasticity and brain disorders, offering a multidisciplinary and translational research approach.
BRAINCITY’s key features:
- Combines molecular biology (EMBL) and neurobiology (Nencki) expertise,
- Aims to tackle major neurological and psychiatric disorders through the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools,
- Emphasizes the role of brain-environment interaction in neuroplasticity.
Main research goals:
- Targeted therapies for post-traumatic brain complications,
- Behavioral testing platform for potential drugs with CNS activity,
- Treatment methods for motivation disorders,
- EEG-based tools for neuropsychiatric therapy support
BRAINCITY serves as a unique hub for developing impactful, science-driven solutions to some of the most pressing brain health challenges.
Project leaders: Prof. Leszek Kaczmarek, Prof. Ewelina Knapska
Scope of tasks:
- Development of scientific projects towards clinical trials,
- Supporting scientists in cooperation with the business and clinical environment,
- Training researchers in translation and early development stemming from scientific discoveries,
- Preparing documentation related to scientific projects and clinical trials,
- Preparing, analysing, and negotiating offers and agreements.

Oczekujemy
Requirements:
- Analytical thinking skills and focus on organizational needs,
- Great communication skills,
- Ability to draft written content for grant applications, ethical committees submissions etc.,
- Negotiation skills,
- Proficiency in Polish and English,
- Experience in preparing contracts,
- Understanding of the translational process from research to market,
- Independence, responsibility, good work organization and ability to prioritize tasks.
Nice to have:
- Experience in:
- collaboration with clinical partners in scientific projects, including contracts & documentation,
- clinical trials,
- OR medical experiments legal requirements,
- Proven ability to broker between stakeholders with different goals, such as researchers, clinicians, legal and administrative staff, and industry partners,
- Experience in deeptech startups OR running acceleration/mentoring programmes for projects/startups,
- PhD degree or PhD candidates in: biotechnology, chemistry, medicine or related.
