Hours: 6 hours per week​

Contract Status: Permanent

Location: Cavan​​

About the Service: ​

Travellers, like everyone else have a right to health. This role is about working together to bring about change aimed to promote this right and improve Traveller’s health and wellbeing. The role recognises that Traveller health is affected by many things, including racism, discrimination, accommodation, poverty, education, and lack of employment—not just access to health services.

​As a Traveller Community Health Worker, you will work as a team to engage with Traveller families on the ground and services to:

• Build trust
• Share health including mental health information
• Signpost Travellers to access health and other services
• Alert to existing and emerging issues on the ground
• Ensure Traveller issues are raised and work together to identify solutions
• Ensure Traveller issues are represented at the table
• Work with service providers to ensure they are culturally appropriate and respond better to Traveller needs.
• Capacity building and empowerment of Travellers supporting confidence, knowledge and self-advocacy skills
• Promote and celebrate Traveller ethnicity, identity and culture
