Working at Manchester
Opcare has been providing Prosthetic and Orthotic services to the NHS Manchester Foundation Trust for over 15 years. The Prosthetics service is located in the Specialised Ability Centre Manchester.
We work in conjunction with a consultant led multi-disciplinary team, to deliver excellent services to over 2,500 patients. There is a complex mix of patients who attend the MDT and extended practice clinics, which presents opportunities to be involved in a wide and varied remit.
At the Manchester Centre there is a large on-site workshop where our highly skilled teams provide a collaborative working approach to patient device design and manufacture. We work together to support the patients and make a real difference to people’s lives.
As a Senior Prosthetist, you will further develop your career by delivering high-quality, dedicated patient care to a broad caseload, including both routine and multifactorial needs. You will work autonomously within your team while providing comprehensive clinical assessment, prescription, fitting, and treatment planning to meet individual patient requirements.
In addition to clinical practice, you will proactively lead local service development initiatives and champion quality improvement projects under strategic direction. This includes actively contributing to, and leading, protocol development and service evaluation to enhance patient outcomes. You will also act as a key resource for clinical advice within the local team, sharing knowledge to support effective decision-making and service delivery.
A core part of the role is mentoring and developing others – offering guidance for less experienced colleagues, leading on student mentorship, and supporting graduates and work experience placements.

Demonstrates sound clinical experience across a diverse range of patient groups and conditions and applies expert problem-solving skills and clinical reasoning to provide evidence-based care.
Provides expert second opinions and clinical guidance, leading multidisciplinary team (MDT) decision-making and supporting complex case management.
Works independently within established protocols, adhering to prescription guidelines with minimal supervision.
Supports and advises colleagues on cost-effective clinical solutions, ensuring alignment with prescription guidelines and service standards.
Leads training and development initiatives, mentoring less experienced clinicians, overseeing student placements and supporting graduate and work experience programmes.
Delivers professional training and presentations to internal teams, external stakeholders, and at clinical or academic forums.
Engages in regular CPD activities, including reflective practice, to maintain and develop clinical knowledge, and shares learning to enhance team-wide clinical knowledge.
Actively leads audits, service evaluations, and local or cross-centre research providing guidance to colleagues on accurate documentation, data integrity, and effective written communication.
Demonstrates strong awareness of key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring practice aligns with service expectations and supporting colleagues to meet performance standards.

Highly developed interpersonal skills – including formal and informal communication
Proven record of working within an active, fast paced clinical environment
